Wren Hop Wine Offer

On our most recent team journey, just two Tuesdays ago, we took a class trip to Wren Hop to taste through some outrageously yummy wines with Jim and Margot. For those of you who know my aversion to tasting notes, "outrageously yummy" fits the bill perfectly.

These are micro-lot wines, with an annual production somewhere around 1,400 cases. That means not much. Perhaps the smallest production of any of our Vintner Members. Full-throttle wines with a bookish nod toward complexity.

It's a wonderful local visit down Shiloh Road to the end, then a few lefts and rights until you make your way up the crest separating Windsor from Eastside Road. Up there, at the barn, you can sip on some lovely wines and survey the valley. If you squint a little, and use your imagination, you can wave at the Mayacama Clubhouse.

Wren Hop, Chardonnay, Green Acres, “Letters to Madeline,”
Sonoma Coast 2024 $68

From Jim:

“Letters to Madeleine is inspired by the correspondence of Guillaume Apollinaire to his fiancée, Madeleine Pagés, from the WWI trenches of France in 1916. Guillaume wrote, ‘The mud here is endless, a cold, thick blanket clinging to everything. I dream of the day I can drink wine with you again, where the only sound is your voice.’”

This one sold our team. It was hands down the crowd favorite. Slight hints of sesame oil, on my all-time favorite Old Wente Clone Chardonnay.

Wren Hop, Pinot Noir, “Love Crime,” Sonoma Coast 2024 $84

From Jim:

“This is a slow-burn thriller. Methodical and seductive with intense character development, tension, and an explosive plot-twist finale. This wine is a hard to put down swirler.”

All of the Wren Hop wines have that full throttle complexity I spoke of. Unabashedly hedonistic, with a literary sensibility.

Wren Hop, Pinot Noir, “Darkness and Light,” Sonoma Coast 2024 $94

The hidden choice—a bonus-round wine that made the cut. Not the original choice, but the right one.

Haunting, and full of depth. Even Jim was surprised. This one hadn't shown the fortitude it now holds when he last tasted it six months ago. I think this is my favorite of the two Pinots.

Thank you, as always, for supporting the Mayacama wine program. We're excited to share these wines with our Members, and I'm always happy to talk through the selections or help with your order. Don't hesitate to reach out.

Cheers!

Jared Hooper, Wine Director
