FIRST FRIDAY POUR: mayacama chardonnay

Friday, November 7
5:30 - 6:30 pm

The Mayacama "Vintner Select" project has been a goal ever since the Club's inception, and a way to highlight exclusive wines crafted by our very own Vintner Members. Our inaugural release is a partnership with Wesley Steffens and his world-renowned winemaker, Luc Morlet, who made this special Chardonnay exclusively for Mayacama Members. Sources from Lone Oaks Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, this wine is the only Sonoma County wine produced by Vineyard 7 & 8. We plan on featuring this wine in our Villas and Castitas, as a regular item on our by the glass list, and during Member events. The wine will also be available for your cellars and lockers. We are excited to offer this outstanding Chardonnay and hope you enjoy this selection - the first of its kind at Mayacama!

andrew black named MAYACAMA'S
first assistant golf professional

We are pleased to announce that Andrew Black has been named Mayacama's First Assistant Golf Professional. The third PGA Professional to hold this prestigious position, Andrew follows John McMullen, the newly appointed Director of Golf at Hillcrest Country Club in Beverly Hills, California and Chapman Dundas, the Head Golf Professional at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club.

Andrew brings a wealth of experience to his position. He is a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management with a concentration area of PGA Golf Management and a Minor in Business Administration.

Andrew's experience includes internships at Crystal Springs Resort in Vernon, NJ, at The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and two stints at Mayacama in 2007 and 2008. At the conclusion of Andrew's final internship at Mayacama in August of 2008, he was invited to join the Golf Professional as Assistant Golf Professional in March of 2009. Andrew was elected to PGA Membership as a Class "A" Member in April 2009 and was invited by PGA Magazine to join a highly select group of PGA Professionals as part of their Ambassador Program. He has been featured in several publications of PGA Magazine including their "best practices" series. As many of you have experienced first-hand, Andrew is an outstanding instructor and has enjoyed success with students on all levels. He is also a Member of the Titleist Professional Staff Member and a Certified Clubfitter. Outside of golf, Andrew's passions are for his family, Clemson University Athletics, traveling, and fishing.

We welcome Andrew as he assumes this all-important role as First Assistant Golf Professional at Mayacama. Joining Andrew and rounding out our Professional Staff is Zach Makilan, who has been a member of our staff since opening day and was elected to Membership in the PGA of America earlier this year, and PGA and LPGA Apprentice Chelsa Robinson. We all look forward to working together to continue along the path of success that your young Club has achieved in the game of golf thus far. To read more about your Professional Staff, please visit the Mayacama Website and www.mayacama.com.

BRADY WINS AGAIN!!!

Brady Exber continues with his winning ways by adding The Stocker Cup to his list of Tournament Victories in 2014! The current British Senior Amateur Champion and Mayacama Club Champion led the Stocker Cup wire-to-wire, but had to survive a sudden-death playoff with Herbie Aikens to claim the title. Exber fired rounds of 68-72-73 for a three under par total of 213 strokes. Played this year at Sonoma National Golf Club, The Stocker Cup is a mid-amateur invitational tournament named in honor of Peter Stocker. The tournament also includes a best-ball event which pairs one Peter Stocker Flight player (A Player) with a competitive B player and is held simultaneous to the individual championship.

Exber made it a clean sweep by winning both the Gross and the Net Team Championship. Paired with Jim Fisher of Santa Rosa, the duo finished with a 3-day gross total of 17 under par, and a net total of 31 under par! Fisher is a Member of Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club but has his name on one of our Champions Board - the 2013 Men's Member-Guest Championship, where he teamed with Mayacama Member Paul Balatti to win that year’s Championship Flight and the Overall Champion's Title.

Mayacama Member Mark Mance and his partner Scott Clark finished in the 7th spot of the Gross Division of the Team Championship with rounds of 66-73-71 for a six under par total of 210 Strokes.

More on Brady...

2014 has been quite the year for Mayacama Club Champion Brady Exber. He started out the year with a win in the Senior Division at the George C.  Thomas Invitational at Los Angeles Country Club and followed that up by winning the prestigious British Senior Amateur Championship trophy, which thanks to Brady is generously on loan and proudly displayed at Mayacama Golf Club. Then Brady traveled south to Charleston, South Carolina where he won the Senior Azalea  (for the fourth time) and the Yeamans Hall Senior Invitational before rounding out the year with his sweep of The Stocker Cup!

For more on Brady's banner year, please see the following Global Golf Post by Steve Eubanks.

scoTT MITCHELL WINS SANTA ROSA CITY

Bennett Valley Golf Course
Santa Rosa, California

Mayacama Member Scott Mitchell won the Santa Rosa City Golf Championship, played last weekend at Bennett Valley Golf Course. Scott took the lead by firing an opening round of 2-under par 70, and followed that up with an even par round of 72 for a 36-hole total of 142.

Third place finisher Daniel Kim

In addition to the prestigious Santa Rosa City Championship, Scott won the Junior Tour of Northern California Fall Series Tournament at Greenhorn Creek Golf Club in Angels Camp, CA. Scott trailed by one after an opening round of 73, but finished strong with birdies on his last 3 holes to shoot a final round 70 for a one-under par round of 143 and a six shot victory!

GLENEARN GOLF CLUB (GLENEAGLES, SCOTLAND)
WINS INAUGURAL MATCH VS. MAYACAMA BY ONE

Call it Ryder Cup Revisited, but the Euro’s (in this case...the Scots) were too much for the Americans at Mayacama Golf Club when sixteen Gentlemen Golfers from Glenearn Golf Club played a two-day Match against Mayacama’s Finest!

Glenearn took an early one-point lead after Day One Four-Ball Matches (better-ball of two) by seizing the day 4-1/2 to 3-1/2. After splitting the Friday Single Matches at 8 points each, they had their one point lead and a victory to take back home. But only after an evening of food, wine, and the obligatory speeches, toasts, poetry, and finally a whisky-induced chorus of "Ole, Ole Ole Oley!" around the Fire Pit.

Glenearn Campfire Video

It was a wonderful event where our two clubs shared our passion for the game and the friendships that go along with it. We shall look forward to the next time that our two clubs share a game and a glass.
