HUSBAND-WIFE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - IRISH & DAWGS PREVAIL!
Patrick and Emily O’Keeffe are your 2014 Husband & Wife Club Champions after posting a level par score of 72! Par is indeed "excellence" in this "Chapman" format (no relation to Mayacama Associate Golf Professional Chapman Dundas) in which both players tee off, hit each other’s ball for the second shot, and then pick the ball with which they wish to score and play that ball alternately into the hole. It’s a challenge just to keep up with the format, but to shoot even par is outstanding! Both players have to contribute, and the O’Keeffe’s certainly did that!
Greg and Jennifer Hauck, sporting their Georgia Bulldog Red & Black claimed the Mayacama Flight Championship with an outstanding net score of 61, finishing 4 strokes ahead of Runners-Up (and former champions) Rick and Martha Herbert.

AJGA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP AT MAYACAMA
We were pleased to host the AJGA Junior Championship at Mayacama, where 72 of the nation's top Junior Golfers were here to compete for the prestigious title.
Eddie Lai of San Jose California and Marianne Li of Bellevue Washington captured the Boys and Girls Titles of the American Junior Golf Association Open at Mayacama Golf Club, which was played here July 8th & 9th.
After firing a blistering 66 in the final round, Lai finished the tournament with a 54 hole total of two under par and found himself tied with South San Francisco's Isaiah Salinda. Lai took the title in a one hole playoff, hitting his 3rd shot approach to the 18th to within a foot for an easy tap-in birdie. Though he doesn't graduate high school until 2017, Lai displayed a great deal of maturity in both his play and in his victory speech, thanking us all for the opportunity of playing at Mayacama. "It's a true gem. You can't find this anywhere else. To be here was just awesome and then to win it, it just makes the experience even better," Lai said. "It was insane. When I walked into the gate, I thought, oh my gosh, you only see trees and mountains, and you find the holes in the middle of the mountains." Lai’s graciousness at the awards was highlighted when he thanked "my Mommy and my Daddy".
Marianne Li was a picture of consistency after shooting rounds of 72-73-72 for a one over par total of 217 and two strokes ahead of runner-up Beth Lillie of Fullerton, California. During the awards presentation, Li was both humble and gracious, giving thanks to the Members and Staff of Mayacama for providing the field with the opportunity of playing here."It has been such a privilege that Mayacama has opened its doors to the juniors. I know it is our first year here and the staff has been really nice to us. I am really thankful for the opportunity," Li said, and added "I know how prestigious it is and without this tournament, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to play this course". Li graduates from High School in 2015 and will be attending the University of California at Berkeley.
The tournament attracted both a national and international field, with players coming from 14 states and 4 countries to compete at Mayacama, and our venue did not disappoint. The Club and course received rave reviews from the players, yet it challenged them with difficult hole locations and yardage (6695 for the Boys and 5921 for the Girls). Yet what stands out the most is the graciousness of the players to each other, their gratitude to the Club for hosting the event (Mayacama received a stack of thank you notes a foot high), the pace of play (4 hours 20 minutes), and the professionalism of the AJGA Staff. This is a clear indication that the future of the game is in good hands.

Thank you to the entire Membership for offering your course to support such an outstanding event for Junior Golf. It’s what good clubs do and we’re grateful for your support.

CORKAGE POLICY
by Jonathan Wilhelm, Managing Partner
As a friendly reminder, our corkage fee of $20 per 750ml bottle applies only to wine that was purchased outside the Club and brought in for consumption at the Club. The corkage fee is waived on all wine purchased through the Club. This includes wines purchased through our retail program, wine offers, special purchases, or from the wine list. Prior to shipment or placement in your wine locker, a Mayacama sticker is applied to each bottle as a way to identify it as purchased through the Club so you won't be charged the corkage fee.
NO SMOKING PLEASE!
by Greg Brown, General Manager
With rising temperatures,we have again entered high fire danger season so we are enforcing our no smoking on the golf course policy. Our Membership Agreement states "smoking is not permitted anywhere on the Mayacama property except in the designated smoking areas. Designated smoking areas are restricted to the private Women's Locker Room Terrace and the Library Terrace off the Men's Locker Room. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on or near the Golf Course or Practice Facility." During high fire danger season, this is a zero tolerance policy so as to protect the environment, club assets, personal property, and the homes on campus. We have asked our caddies and employees to assist in enforcing this policy. Violations to this important rule will result in Member suspension. Thank you for your cooperation.
